How does one become a Catholic?

become a catholic through RCIA

Those who have not been previously baptized or who have been baptized in another Christian tradition, become Catholic Christians through a process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or RCIA. Through the process they are baptized (if necessary) and celebrate the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. The celebration of the sacraments of initiation normally take place at the Easter Vigil.

The Catholic Church warmly welcomes new members and tries to provide a spiritual formation according to each person’s need.

Through the RCIA:

  • The Church encourages an ongoing conversation to Jesus Christ
  • Candidates are provided a structure for the proclamation of the Gospel
  • The teachings of the Church are passed on through catechesis
  • Spiritual direction is offered
  • Sundays, feasts and the seasons of the year are celebrated.
  • Direct contact with members of the parish community is encouraged and facilitated.

Who is RCIA for?

It is for adults and children (over the age of seven or in the first grade) who wish to join the Roman Catholic Church. Contact us or call Matt Low at 406.656.2522.
