Title: Director of Christian Initiation, Infant Baptism Ministry & Marriage Preparation

Job Summary:
This role coordinates communication between individuals seeking completion of Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic Church and the church, including infant baptism, adult education, and marriage preparation at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Billings, Montana, within the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings. The ideal candidate communicates well and is organized, collaborative, and committed to helping others grow as dynamic disciples who believe, grow, gather, love, and lead.
Order of Christian Initiation of Adults and Adaptation for Children:
• Creates a team and provides resources for individuals, including facilitating any phase of the process, team meetings, and spiritual enrichment
• Plans and implements the initiation process for both adults and children: Precatechumenate, Catechumenate, Purification and Enlightenment, and Mystagogia
• Plans – in consultation with the pastor, liturgy coordinator, director of music, and Worship Commission – the Rite of Welcome and Acceptance, Rite of Election, Scrutinies, and Sacraments of Initiation and prepares those participating
• Prepares worship aids (Sacraments of Initiation)
• Conducts rehearsals for all of the rites
• Is present for all of the rites and ensures all run smoothly
• Meets periodically with candidates and/or families individually to reflect on the spiritual journey and assist in the discernment process
• Recruits and provides formation for sponsors
• Promotes the community as initiator, building awareness and continually inviting the community to assist and participate in the initiation process
• Evaluates the process each year and sets goals
• Continues personal faith development through prayer, study, participation in workshops, seminars, retreats, spiritual direction, etc.
Infant Baptism Ministry:
• Coordinates initial interview with parent(s)
• Trains and supports leaders of baptismal preparation sessions and baptismal guides
• Coordinates dates and ministers for celebrations of baptism
• Conducts rehearsals for baptismal liturgies
• Is present for the baptismal liturgies and ensures everything runs smoothly
• Evaluates the process each year and set goals
Marriage Preparation:
• Conducts initial interview with couple (explains preparation process, begins paperwork, provides materials, etc.)
• Coordinates methods of marriage preparation (Couple-to-Couple and Engaged Encounter)
• Administers FOCCUS test and facilitates review sessions
• Facilitates preparation for weddings of St. Pius X parishioners that take place at other parishes
• Assists couple in planning marriage liturgy in collaboration with director of music, liturgy coordinator, and presiding pastor
• Facilitates and monitors guest priest ceremonies in collaboration with director of music and liturgy coordinator
• Coordinates marriage annulment process by supervising advocates, referring petitioners and respondents to advocates, working as an active advocate, and maintaining communications with the Diocesan Marriage Tribunal
Adult Education:
• Assumes lead responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating the overall direction of adult faith formation in the parish
• Recruits, supports, and provides initial and ongoing formation (or makes these opportunities known and available) for catechists ministering to adults
• Reviews and maintains a variety of resources geared to adults in different age groups, stages of the family lifecycle, and/or life circumstances
Requirements:
• Must be a fully-initiated, practicing Catholic in good standing
• Bachelor’s degree in Sacramental Theology, Scripture, Pastoral Studies, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
• Minimum one year of experience in pastoral/parish ministry
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, to effectively communicate with various groups
• Technological background with software applications, including Word, Excel, the internet, and email systems

Job Summary:
This key role coordinates the contemporary-leaning music ministry at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Billings, Montana, within the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings, thereby helping others grow as dynamic disciples who believe, grow, gather, love, and lead. The ideal candidate possesses a knowledge of liturgical music and a deep concern for all ministers who make the celebration possible. The ability to effectively instruct, organize, and enable the various musical ministers will enhance the vibrancy of the ministry and the experience of parishioners.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Serves as a member of the pastoral team and cooperates with the pastor and other team members in working for the good of the entire parish
- Represents the parish team and the music ministry on the parish Worship Commission
- Communicates with and seeks to educate the parish community regarding the music ministry through the use of the parish bulletin, newsletter, and parish social media
- Coordinates and schedules all people involved in music ministry: accompanists, cantors, choirs, ensembles, instrumentalists, etc.
- Maintains database, demographic, and scheduling records of all music ministers
- Prepares an annual budget in consultation with the pastor and parish administrator
- Initiates the formation and oversees the implementation of parish policies and guidelines concerning music used for liturgy
- Oversees the use of digital subscriptions (Breaking Bread and Spirit & Song) and ensures the parish is in compliance with all copyright regulations, reporting music reproduction/podcasts through OneLicense and CCLI
- Orders all materials and supplies used by the music ministry: printed music, sound equipment, etc.
- Maintains the music library, pulling and refiling music for choirs, ensembles, and cantors
- Oversees maintenance of sound equipment and programming of the ‘Singing Tower’
- Participates in deanery (cluster, vicariate) and diocesan networks of professional peers, and fosters good public relations within and outside the parish
Worship Responsibilities:
- Develops and coordinates a comprehensive parish music ministry, calling the community into active use of their gifts in service to the community
- Recruits, trains, and works to develop a sense of ministry (not performance) among parish musicians
- Serves as a resource consultant for liturgical events, including baptisms, reconciliation, confirmation, First Eucharist, communal anointing of the sick, weddings, funerals, etc.
- Assists engaged couples in preparing their wedding music plan and distributes music plan to engaged couple, presider, and music ministers
- Assists bereaved families in selecting funeral music and distributes funeral music plan to funeral homes, presider, and music ministers
- Oversees the planning and preparation of music for each liturgical season and for special occasions
- Directs the Parish, Youth, and High School Choirs and works with individual groups and musicians as needed
- Ensures that the liturgical music norms and laws of the Church are followed in the parish
Educational Responsibilities:
- Continues to grow in knowledge of Catholic liturgical music
- Recruits, and ensures the initial preparation of, all people engaged in music ministry
- Develops/coordinates workshops for ongoing training of music ministers

Serves as a parish pastoral team member and cooperates with the pastor and other team members in working for the good of the entire parish
Represents the parish team on the parish Worship Commission
Communicates with all whose work affects or is affected by liturgical celebrations: maintenance staff, school personnel, religious education personnel, parish organizations, etc.
Communicates with and seeks to educate the parish community regarding liturgy through parish channels (bulletin, newsletter, parish social media, etc.)
Coordinates all people involved in liturgical ministries
Coordinates scheduling of all liturgical ministers and maintains the ministry database
Oversees scheduling of all liturgical celebrations and prayer services, ensuring the liturgical year integrity
Prepares an annual budget in consultation with the pastor, Worship Commission, and parish administrator
Orders all materials for church celebrations: candles, wine, hosts, vessels, etc.
Worship Responsibilities:
Assists engaged couples with preparing wedding liturgies
Assists bereaved families with preparing the rites of the Order of Christian Funerals
Oversees the planning and preparation of the worship space for seasons and other occasions
Joins with others to develop the liturgical spirit of the parish and fosters an atmosphere of hospitality and harmony
Schedules substitute priests as needed
Ensures that the liturgical norms and laws of the Church are followed in the parish
Educational Responsibilities:
Continues to grow in knowledge of Catholic liturgy through reading, workshops, and educational opportunity
Recruits, and ensures the initial preparation of, all people engaged in liturgical ministries
Provides for the initial orientation of all parish worship committee members
Provides workshops for ongoing liturgical formation for ministers
Requirements:
Must be a fully-initiated, practicing Catholic in good standing
Bachelor’s degree in Sacramental Theology, Scripture, Pastoral Studies or a related field (Master’s preferred)
Minimum one year of experience in pastoral/parish ministry
